Cavalier King Charles Spaniel : : Female (spayed) : : Adult : : Small
Dotti is a darling little cavalier that made her way to SFCR after being released from a commercial breeding facility. Dotti has a mature cataract in her left eye and was evaluated by a board certified veterinary ophthalmologist We are pleased to say she received a really great report! Her left eye is a bit smaller than her right one and it is believed that her left eye never fully developed. Her tear production and eye pressures are completely normal. Cataract surgery was not recommended as it is not as successful in dogs as it is with people to begin with and Dotti's left eye is already abnormal in size and development. This would likely lessen the chances of it being successful even more and it would be an extremely difficult procedure. Dotti is not completely blind in her left eye and can see shadows and differentiate between lights on and off. Her right eye is not affected whatsoever and it is likely that it never will be, but of course nothing is ever guaranteed. It is also possible that her cataract could resorb itself and she could gain vision back. There was evidence of this process starting during her eye exam. It was recommended that Dotti start an anti inflammatory eye drop given every other day. Dotti is a fun loving little gal - she is very affectionate, is learning that toys are quite entertaining to play with, and enjoys doing "zoomies" in the backyard. Dotti does well with the other dogs in her foster home as long as they don't try to steal her food or toys. She has a prey drive and must got to a home without cats - she does not interact safely/respectfully with them.

More about DottiGood with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids, Likes to play with toys, Affectionate, Gentle, Goofy *All SFCR dogs are current on age-appropriate vaccinations (rabies, distemper, bordetella, and lepto), spayed/neutered (if at least 6 months of age), tested for heartworm & tick-borne disease, receive dentals if needed, are started on preventatives for heartworm and fleas/ticks, and microchipped. Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have received limited socialization, so they may need extra time to adjust and settle in. Older children are often a great fit for our dogs, and family's with younger children will be considered based on each dog's individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may require a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of our dogs adapt quite quickly. |
