Gertie is a darling mini poodle in search of her forever family

Gertie came to rescue after being released from a commercial breeding facility. She has done very well with her foster family and is learning so much.

Gertie is playful at times and enjoys the company of another dog. She is a typical little lap dog and loves to be with her foster mom and dad as much as possible. Gertie would do best in a home where someone is around most of the time. She is crate trained but would LOVE to sleep in the "big bed" with her foster mom.

Gertie has done well with her housetraining as long as she can be let out every 4 hours or so during the day (she sleeps all night).

ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Physically fenced in yard - leash walking is still very much a work in progress and Gertie will not go to the bathroom while leashed.
  • Confident resident dog preferred.
  • Gertie would do best in a situation where a family member works remotely or is retired and home most of the time.

Gertie has been spayed & received a dental cleaning while in rescue. She is now current on vaccinations & monthly preventatives, tested negative for heartworm and tick borne diseases, and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $500 plus tax.

*All SFCR dogs are current on age-appropriate vaccinations (rabies, distemper, bordetella, and lepto), spayed/neutered (if at least 6 months of age), tested for heartworm & tick-borne disease, receive dentals if needed, are started on preventatives for heartworm and fleas/ticks, and microchipped.

Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have received limited socialization, so they may need extra time to adjust and settle in. Older children are often a great fit for our dogs, and family's with younger children will be considered based on each dog's individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may require a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of our dogs adapt quite quickly.
