Speedy is a playful and very affectionate five year old male Shih Tzu.  His foster Mom says Speedy follows her everywhere and is very happy-go-lucky; his tail wags non-stop. He is learning quickly how fun it is to get to be a dog.

Speedy is crate-trained and is doing very well with his house-training.  He has mastered going up stairs but still needs some work going down. Speedy loves his foster siblings and would do best in a home with a resident dog to play with and have as a role model and companion.  Although he quickly warms to other dogs, he is slow to warm to humans which is understandable given his background.  However within a week, he warmed up to his foster mom and was wanting to shower her with lots of licks and love. He has learned quickly to love toys and has such a playful and fun attitude and personality.  He will make someone a wonderful companion pet for many years to come!

ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Physically fenced in yard - Speedy is a breeder release dog and not familiar or comfortable walking on a leash/harness. A physical fence is required for his safety.
  • Confident resident dog preferred.

Speedy has been neutered and received a dental with extractions. He is current on vaccinations & monthly preventatives, dewormed, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $500 plus tax.

*All SFCR dogs are current on age-appropriate vaccinations (rabies, distemper, bordetella, and lepto), spayed/neutered (if at least 6 months of age), tested for heartworm & tick-borne disease, receive dentals if needed, are started on preventatives for heartworm and fleas/ticks, and microchipped.

Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have received limited socialization, so they may need extra time to adjust and settle in. Older children are often a great fit for our dogs, and family's with younger children will be considered based on each dog's individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may require a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of our dogs adapt quite quickly.
