Piper is a 7 year old toy poodle that came to SFCR after being released from a commercial breeding facility. She weighs just 6.5 pounds but don't let that fool you! She is full of spunk and determination.

Piper has pretty severe kennel/separation anxiety. She has been working on this while in foster care and has improved but really prefers not to be crated. Her foster mom works from home which has been really, really good for Piper. She is used to sleeping in her crate at night but would really prefer to be in bed with her foster humans. Piper needs a family where someone is home most of the time (she would not do well being left alone for several hours at a time).

Piper is SO smart and has almost mastered housetraining - she goes in and out doors, up and down stairs without hesitation. She loves to be in her foster mom's lap or at least within 2 feet of her ;). Piper has started to realize that dog beds (next to foster mom, of course) aren't bad either!

ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Physically fenced in yard - Piper is a breeder release dog and not familiar with or comfortable walking on a harness/leash. She is also a flight risk and requires a physical fence to keep her safe.
  • Confident and similar sized resident dog preferred but not required.
  • Piper requires an environment where someone is home most of the time.
  • Home with older, dog savvy kids only (ages 12 & up).

Piper has been spayed and received an extensive dental cleaning (with many extractions), tested negative for heartworm & tick borne diseases, is current on vaccinations and monthly preventatives, and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $500 plus tax.
